Saffron Hall Trio Concert

  • Saffron Hall Audley End Road Saffron Walden, England, CB11 4JB United Kingdom (map)

There is a special magic to be found in this instrumental combination. Whether integrated in a warm, rich blend or bringing the individual instruments’ singing character to the fore, Beethoven and Brahms capture its very essence.

Brahms’ late work combines one of his characteristically beautiful slow movements with music with more than a tinge of gypsy style in a piece full of autumnal serenity and muscular vigour. Beethoven’s trio is actually an arrangement of his own large-scale septet, but the reduction in forces seems only to reinforce the work’s dark-hued colouration, lyrical inspiration and fizzing energy. Three of the current musicians in the formidable array of talent promoted by the Young Classical Artists Trust combine for two chamber music masterpieces.
